Tourist presence in the Rieti area

From formatrieti.it - Popular festivals today perhaps represent one of the last bastions able to counter the unstoppable depopulation of our territories, which began in the 1960s with the crisis of the agro-pastoral system and was then exacerbated, in the following decades, by the demographic winter that Italy as a country is experiencing.

A few days ago, the local press widely reported the news that the Province of Rieti ranks last in terms of tourist presence, and, except for a few far-sighted administrators with vision and ability, no initiative is on the horizon that could reverse the desert of ideas and actions in which we have been mired for decades.

For this reason too, the many parish committees present throughout the Province of Rieti, composed mostly of volunteers with ties to their homeland, represent a hope for resilience in the face of oblivion in our territories.

The organization of hundreds of activities throughout the Province helps keep traditions alive and, albeit for increasingly short periods, limit the depopulation of the areas by attracting so-called "return tourism," made up of the many who had to abandon their homelands in search of work and opportunities.

These anniversaries enliven the various towns and provide a moment of reunion for the population, days of joy and serenity in which everyone, returning to their hometowns, relives sensations and emotions of the past, passing on to future generations those authentic and genuine values steeped in tradition that undoubtedly belong to our territories.
